Right next to the A272, this post can hardly be described as “secret”!
Closed in 1968, following a review of the activities of the Corps, this post now lies derelict with rubbish strewn across the compound.
The access shaft has been rebuilt, and, according to Nick Catford’s survey, fitted with a “non-standard” hatch.
On our visit we didn’t venture inside, but Nick Catford says that, on his last visit, it was “a mess, full of rubbish and 9″ deep in water.”
Parts of the original surface features are still evident, including the FSM (Fixed Survey Meter) probe pipe, and various instrument mountings.
